and so i love this city like a song this city that rises like smoke all day and all night long like a rhapsody of wind through cottonwood trees and i hear the music floating over windblasted plain and desert and grass- land like the ten million particles of sacred sand of our descendents and all our relations washington can go to hell we're our own nation or so i think early enough in the morning or late enough at night as each and every misgiving takes glorious flight over the cactus-studded bajadas flowing down from the mountains a millenia in the making the best stuff of this life is there scattered all over the ground for the taking the ravens say it the coyotes repeat it mi tierra mi madre and a city a land a space that is my home (tomorrow in this place the sun will shine) (no one is ever alone) |
