I'm stepping softly Through these streets, almost unbelieving, But too wise not to see-- I'm here, you're here, In this Labyrinth of a City, Almost undercover But not quite out of sight. Over the phone, I felt a little apprehension, And your slight brogue was even blushing In the depths of your voice-- I could hear the trepidation Of your heart in each word, But I did my best to smile Through the sound. And now these streets are rushing, Turning my direction this way or that, But I, for once, know where I'm going-- Which train to take, what street To shy away from--and here I am, At the Vivaldi Cafe, sitting in a corner By the piano, And you walk in, and I look up-- Suddenly, I don't know what to say. |
