Caged backed into a corner up against the wall in a box, in a bind a cell, prison walls you locked me up swallowed the key with regret in your eyes and walked away whistling and jangling the change in your pockets. You told me I was free now free of you but you keep coming back for conjugal visits and teary indecision and you pluck at my heart strumming it softly like an old careworn guitar and you rest your head on my chest and tell me you should leave before it gets to be too much. For me it is too much and there will only be so much time for you to pay me visits here in solitary before I venture back out into the prison yard and make new friends with some of the other inmates. So unlock the door, lover, set us both free. |
