the day the night fell

The day the night fell, I was asleep in your arms. It fell into the rolling sea, with the waves crashing and foaming against the sand. There were stars that night, just gentle little lights that reflected themselves in us.  The water clear and blue, as deep as the memories it keeps.  The night dark and mysterious, waiting for the answers to come, and it couldn't wait anymore, so it fell.  It fell hard, and long, and when it tried to surface, it found that it was drowning. But it wasn't the kind of drowning that smothers and suffocates, and tries to make you forget, no.  It was the kind that envelops you, and washes over you like a warm summer wind, that your skin craves long after the warm months have passed.  It was feathers brushing across its universe.  So it let itself fall, deep into the mysterious blue, into the waiting depths and currents below. In the morning I awoke, and saw that sun was shining, and nobody knew where the night was.  But the water had turned dark, with shades that were never there before.  And the rest went into myth and shadow.
