I am a reader of this poster to the OpenDiary site. She recently offered to write entries as challenged by her readership. One challenged her to answer the following questions: "What is love? Is it a battlefield? An easy game to play? The act of loving lovers? Explain what love means to you." Temmakrik's response is fascinating and beautiful, and hit the mark for me in a number of ways. In particular, I responded to this piece of what she had to say: "...The spoken word can be manipulated, and with no record of what was said, even the speaker can lose sight of what they really meant. To write about love, though, is to temporarily pin down and leave your unique fingerprint on something so abstract that its definition changes from book to book and person to person. This scares the bejeezus out of me..." Her short essay also had the effect of sparking a truly interesting conversation in the responses of her readers. This is not just a quote fest: take care to read the whole. http://opendiary.com/entryview.asp?authorcode=A263505&entry=20282 |
