An Ambush of Air

The crow
is a trickster, not a thief
of the promise of love;
instead, a sin-eater, devourer of the snake
and the apple: one swallow,
and the whole world is gone.

No carefully
chanted sky-song
could cause the wing to fall,
a feather, perhaps, unwound
from fate--but
accusation is its own predator.
The foundation, here,
the floor of earth and ash--
it is not the outline
of a warning,
nor is it an ambush of air:
it is a dreamscape,
struggling under the body
of reality.

I accept your reasoning,
forsaken
in a azure-coated haze,
a height of sky
and unattained solace:
the crow
is a creature who waits,
a knock at the hollow door,
a flash of talons
and surrender--
no,
there is no deception, here.
