Untitled

When he enters a room
He commands it, without effort
His presence is immeasurable
And he doesn't even know the extent of it.

I found him in the least likely place
And took him home, without intention
We found a place to just be
And I did not ask him the questions he wasn't ready to answer.

He is hard as nails
But I see right through it
And maybe the soft center I have touched
Will be a place in which I can find a home, someday.

He is a soldier, and plans to go back
To the place that made a man out of him
A stronger. more centered man
Than any I have ever met.  Ever.

He is dogmatic, in his views
Something I admire, in my contradictory, vacillating truisms.
He claims nothing that is not his
And wants nothing to be but free.
And he will fight for it
For you and me.

He works harder than two men, combined
His laugh is infectious
And he does it a lot
Despite the things he's seen and done.

He lives zestfully
And embraces anything that comes his way
With a solicitude
Of a man twice his age.

He makes everything better
He makes everything easier
He takes care of my damaged parts
Without flinching, without judging.

He is a soldier
And one day I will look at him, trying not to cry
And tell him to come home to me
Whatever it takes
Just come home to me.
