Happy Mother’s Day

Nurses of cuts and kissers of bruises
Bankers of teeth, these fairies of tooth-es

Combers of hairs and wipers of noses
Immune to embarrassment, just duties the job poses

Washers of dishes and stained shirts, pants and blouses
A plumber, a carpenter, a female McGuyver of houses

A coffee shop, a diner, a fancy French restaurant
One kitchen suffices, with yet hardly a thought

Off to work then the store, the soccer field and veterinary
Logging more miles than Admiral Robert E. Perry

A partner, a shoulder, a lover, a friend
So many hats that are worn, still the list never ends

Yet, one day a year just doesn’t seem fair
For without your sacrifice, none of us would be here

So knowing I’m not the first nor will I be the last,
A heartfelt thank you to all mothers – future, present and past.
