a piece of the world

In my living room, under the rug there lies a secret. Measured in time only by distance, and we are at the beginning.  We’ll get there, you say.  Words casually tossed about, light hearted in cadence.  There’s a box marked, blue, and exact in shape.  My piece of the world, outlined by you.  We stand in it, moments passing us, our eyes speaking languages translated by lyrics. Candle flames licking against the walls, tongues of fire. It’s here in this place that my heart finds a new step.  Somewhere in the world where everything falls away.  Stripped down to the essentials, there are few things that remain. Nothing but the truth, and the sound of music as it flows over us, light as it glows through you and I.  We glow you say, the eyes of others catching us wherever we go.  Your arms part of my skin, your lips fire against the cooled night.  Under the midnight sky, I can only hope.  One day to be this and more, to be where we are going.  But for now, I’ll stay here in this small blue box, hidden under a rug, in my piece of the world.
