I know I owe them more than this This shell; this half-broken This barely spoken version of myself. And getting there, I will find a way To trick myself into getting half-way there Trick myself into becoming who I was Before. Before there was less of me to work with. A sleight of hand, and trick of words An unadulerated smile, followed by my old crooked smile A witty remark, and the look that goes with it. I will get there, and maybe in tricking them I will trick myself. |
