They tell me I'm calmer, now More serene, less scattered. And I wonder at the way we build All those walls, unknowingly. And yet purposefully, with unmitigated reason. I considered myself a survivor. And thus, put up a front Of toughness, an I'm-made-of-stone facade I thought absolutely necessary. And yes, I lived like that for so long I perhaps didn't see it in myself. Though in its absence I see it like I see a rainbow. With colors, with wonder With eyes-wide-open lucidity. Those walls, that stance Got me where I am today. I survived the storm that brought The rainbow. I made it through the rain. And yes, I am still tough. But if you look in my eyes now What you see won't push you away. They tell me I'm calmer, now. |
