"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves . . .” Matthew 10:16 ------------- My heart aches tonight For the one who seemed right Seemed to become so wrong So many hours and days and nights I prayed for him But when he came into being The heavy breath of him Nearly smothered me-- Until I was almost No more For a while. I run and he runs after me Begging me to give it one more chance. I see myself Hear myself--as I once was-- yearning for a little more pain just as he does now-- And I wonder sometimes If human beings are really as capable of love As we claim to be. I drink and ask God to forgive me For not returning the love of someone Who would have loved me forever. I drink and throw myself back out To the wolves again Figuring I deserve as much. |
