Your weight

Your weight is nothing right now
Or so I’m told.
Not much more than a few peas in my hand.
But to me you are the heaviest thing I have ever carried.
My body stretches, strains, expands to accommodate you
While my mind tries, day in and day out,
Minute by minute
To understand what you are, what you mean, how you will fit
Into this small life of mine.
Atlas carried the Earth atop his shoulders
But I carry a world in my belly.
You are a new life
And mine will never be the same.
