I,m not the greatest of cooks but I love to try........if it goes wrong it goes in the bin or the cats (when they walk away you know you got it wrong).I love going to the store and buying the stuff.I love being selective even though I,m not really an expert at good from bad but it looks good when you sniff or tap then put back on the shelf,not being sexist but women seem impressed,men are pissed off cos they just carry the bags (remember I,m in China).Walking home I always make sure the tall stuff like spring onions and leeks are sticking out of the bags, again not being sexist but I,m a Western guy who has bought food and can cook it himself and Chinese women like that. When I get home the fun part starts THE PREPARATION.Cork pulled on the bottle of wine already chilled,random music playing on speakers,huge chopping board scrubbed clean beforehand and an assortment of sharp cutting objects which men have nightmares about. And the preparation,straining,washing,chopping,dicing,slicing begins.To many men this would be torture if asked to do so but I love it....of course the occasional slurp of wine helps. Then the cooking,boiling potatoes,carrots,cabbage,cauliflower. Stir frying onions,beansprouts,mushrooms. When everything is ready it,s put into dishes or bowls and set out on the table and though I,m still not an expert at chopsticks I like to use them. You and I won,t be doing that again it seems. |
