When you turned to me
At 2:30 a.m. and softly said
Dance with me
With your hands held out
Just so – a perfect replica
Of another memory –
I was overwhelmed by déjà vu

A dagger came down hard
Slicing through that moment
Sharper than any knife I’ve known
Stealing every ounce of truth
From my only-for-you smile
And his ghost in that instant
Reclaimed my eyes.
