True Lies

True Lies

What is “truth” really, Is it secrets we reveal,
Is it words that we say, that our hearts wish were real?

Is one truly keeping secrets, By what they do not say,
Can something be hidden, If you know it anyway?

Does it really make a difference, What it is they choose to withhold,
If you already know the things, You haven’t already been told?

If they choose never to reveal, All the things that they hide,
Is it wrong not to acknowledge, Your knowledge of what’s inside?

Is it an injustice, Do you truly deceive,
If you silently know more, Than they quietly believe?

It’s honestly dishonest, Is it deceitful and unfair,
If they never know you know the things, You know they’d never share?

Do you leave well enough alone, Keep quiet and just go along,
If they don’t know that you know, That what they say they know is wrong?

Is it an infidelity, or a twisted sense of trust,
If you keep from them the things, From you they think they must?

If deep in their heart they trust you, But their mind will not allow,
Should you tell them all the things, That in your heart you know now?

If you don’t bring up, What they fail to mention,
Is it a breach of trust, If done with good intention?

Is this masked deception, A thing that we all need,
A blind man who hears nothing, And a deaf man who cannot see?
