"Try me", he said one year ago. And so I did. I stuck by him through his transgressions because I see in him what I wish he'd see in me. As hard as it was, I chose to believe in him. And look where that got us. We lit another match, but didn't realize it was soaked with the fuel of everything hurtful we had ever been through. Naturally we got burned and blamed each other for our wounds. I take ownership for my part in this, but I can't say the same for him. Regardless, when two people care for each other as much as we claim to, the matchbox is never empty. We just need to be careful to strike an untainted match to ensure a steady, longer lasting flame. So now it's my turn to say to him Try me... |
