let's just say I was being ironic....

You started tugging at yarn,
searching for purchase,
fingering the seams until
one stubborn stitch gave way,
and you had the end you needed.

Small tugs to unravel a spanish shawl,
intricate with detail
your needle and mine
in tandem stitchery.
My, that didn't hurt a bit.

I watched the cloth shrink,
pucker and turn to simple thread,
thinking I knew that someday
we might have to put this away,
but never expecting to be undone.

I knew you had to go my love...
I just never guessed that you
would count it as a kindness
to undo all we had been
rather than risk a goodbye kiss.

And did you really say
I would be just fine
as you gave one last hard tug,
turning me ass over tea kettle
to mourn a tapestry
I thought we both loved?

My, that didn't hurt a bit.
