Dance Away, Dark Angel
Dance away, dark angel
Through the midnight-blue sky filled with stars
Car keys for companionship and
A cat at home patiently waiting amid
The candles and incense and half-written essays
Upon which you so often dote
And fasten your spirit to erotic thoughts
Of the heat and fire yet to come.
But hurry not into that great abyss,
That heavenly-hellish place wherein
Sensual pleasure alone has virtue
And truth is seen as through gossamer cloth
Like the fleeting glimpse of falling stars.
Dance away, dark angel
Out of their reach, their ready grasp
For ease of access makes men sluggish
And past loves couldn't take up the challenge.
Their lives were marked by erratic transition,
Trains with no one at the controls,
Going south, switching tracks, going north -
Going nowhere in particular.
Their hearts were studies in keen contrast
Certain, then uncertain; fond, then bleak embrace.
They fervently yearned to embrace your spirit
But their hearts weren't strong enough to beat
To the bolder rhythms of love's fierce abandon.
Dance away, dark angel
Trailing your silken-starlit gown and
Savor the night's cool breeze in your hair
The lightness of freedom in your limbs
And the glow of the moon on your soft cheek.
Rejoice in knowing that you need not hurry -
That nothing good exists that can not wait -
Until you resume an earthbound dance.
And tonight while mind and body dance free
Drink deep this clear and sparkling sky,
Abandon your cares to the evening breeze,
Feel passion for life swelling in your breast,
And delight in your fiery spirit's joy.
