Momentary Isolation

A blanket of ink
Strewn over the sky.
A full shining disc
Illuminates the dark.
Creates a soft glow
As the silvery threads of moonlight
Caress the distant city lights.
I stand alone,
Watching and waiting, for
Nothing at all.
I fear if I turn my back,
It will all disappear.
The moonlight, the stars,
The city and the ink.
Lingering no more
For a hazy breath of
Dusk air in the moonlight.
What shall be happening?
What will he be doing?
At this moment in time.
Though you are far away
Strewn somewhere between the
Restless city lights,
I don't know where you are.
I search through the lights,
So much in their likeness like stars,
Knowing that one is the flicker of your television,
Or the glow of your bedside clock,
Just not knowing which one.
The calm of the city is upon me,
As I know that one day we shall be one.
With the night lights as our stars,
The cars and people and places our orbits,
And with the city as our comet.
One day it will all be ours,
Momentary isolation, surrounded by life.
Our own private universe,
Somewhere in the city where you sleep.
