Closer
As if being this close
closer than a breath.
As if it could bridge the gap between their hearts.
To be this close.
As if a healing kiss.
no matter how deep his tongue plunged.
Could span the new distance.
The one that appeared one night in their bed
even as they shared a pillow.
As if she can hide it
the difference within her.
Not physical.
Not a scar.
Not a blemish.
But a feeling.
An instance.
A new tempo to her heartbeat.
As if he can play oblivious
and stroke her hair and knead her muscles
to release the tension that has her so unable to relax in bed at night.
As if being this close.
entwining fingers and interlocking legs.
As if it could recharge a lost connection.
To force themselves into one another.
As if asking the questions they should have asked months ago all of a sudden
make up for lost time. lessons for which they were absent.
She drinks him in in a long kiss.
Being this close.
As close as a breath.
She drifted into him rocked gently by waves of fleeting past emotions.
As if being this close would heal old scars and remedy past ailments.
As if she can change him and her and the world.
As if being this close
could make her whole.
