inspired by the moon

[Caressed by the Wind]

I let the slight illumination of the moon and stars
coax my pupils into secure dilation,
and even then the tranquil glow admitted
only the profile of you.
And so I deemed my eyes useless and let them close
as the knowledge of your presence was enough.
In the warmth of your nearness,
the moment came to an unhurried pace,
as if the very quality of slowness, demanding attention,
had seized us and our environs.
Under the blazing white sphere, the night air
slowed with us, becoming thick and heavy
by the moonlight itself.
But it's will was undeterred and it rolled over me,
lifting my hair just away from my neck, as an invitation to you.
You accepted, and with the first gentle, wet kiss,
my body expunged any witheld anxieties with a shiver.
My face, normally tensed for reaction, expanded and smoothed
into the slightest, effortless countenance of contentment.
A calm pervaded me, and I felt like a seagull, coasting
without effort on the dark evening winds of the Pacific.
You placed your hands on my shoulders and moved your sensual work
to my ear.
Tilting my head slightly, I allowed myself to be taken
by you, the wind, and the moment.
