she
she waits
in the middle of the night she lie awake
for a love lost in the storms of life
and she cries
she keeps
a torture chamber for herself in her closet
"like we all do" she says "so it's fine"
but she lies
with me she weeps
with a smile on the corners of her mouth
and no tears fall from her sad dark eyes
but she weeps
for long ago there's a lover she could have died for
she could have gone to hell and back and back again for
she's worth
more than the moon and the stars at night
but she thinks she's just a pile of flesh and bones
she's wrong
i wait
even if it takes my whole life waiting
for the sun to really rise from those eyes, i'll stay
that long
