Romeo sans Juliet

I was her Romeo
and she
she was my Juliet
and now
less than that
and more
she is my one regret
no familial obligation
drew her from me
unlike the pair
we mock with our names
no
it was games that drew
her away
promises broken
love feigned
poetry written for me
never named
because it was to others
as well
her lovers
her loves
she was never mine
as she could never be owned
but I prayed
if she loved
she'd love me alone
and it wasn't to be
and I see now
why
and
like Shakespeares Romeo
I think
'twould be better
to die
than stay alive
...like this

Romeo
