Roman Candles

You gave me my own personal firework display
splashed colors behind my eye lids
and wrote my name with a sparkler
in the night sky
so I could see the reverse negative
long after the glow faded.
You lit endless strings of chinese crackers
and jumped back to hold me close
as I covered my ears
and kissed my smile
as if it were something delicious
you wanted to taste for a while.
I watched fairy fountains in your arms,
cascades of sparkles glimmering in the night.
And when the big show started
filling the horizon
with chrsysanthenum glow
blue silver red purple green gold
I was kissing you
as if my very life
depended on holding your lips to mine.
They say I missed the best part...
but oh my love-------
were they ever wrong.
