Sacred

Sacred is the moment
when words become sacriledge,
when I am suddenly
taught the sacred dances of Bali,
know the sweet smile of Shiva
and meld to you
in a fusion of spirit
that carries into my soul.
I used to pride myself
on silly contortions,
absurd postures
and what passed for blessed release---
until you swept me in your arms
drowned me in your eyes
made my lips tremble for your taste
and carried me on eagles wings
into an embrace
that that never leaves me
imprinting more deeply
each time we touch.
Sacred is the feeling
that goes beyond flesh
when hours or days or weeks later
I can be consumed again
in perfect clarity
absolute recall
and the dazzling blaze
of what we are
when the world is distant
and small
and all that matters
is the moment we created
when the gods whisper our names
to each other.
