It's Own Sweet Time

You are tossing the night
wondering if what has been
will be the best, the ultimate, the one.
Your heart has been up for grabs
seems like forever,
and you're afraid
that a fire sale is the only way
to move the "merch"
that has sat so long
without attracting a serious buyer.
You've waited long enough
with a heart full of soft dreams
strummed delicately
at your soul,
and waited for a voice to match yours
chord for chord
for a yes that was more
than a temporary fix.
And when the night is deepest,
you have despaired
that love is a real thing,
that it will come and stay
and wrap you tightly in it's arms
while you hold a lover
in your own,
that it  will breath the benediction
"forever"
and seal a heart to you
for all time.
I can tell you that it happens
that it will come
when you least expect it,
but until it does
that promise is a dream
that rings hollow
to a heart that longs and yearns.
Hold fast to your desire,
because it is fuel and tinder both,
and one day you will build a fire
feed it small bits of dried leaves
from your spirit
and the blaze will consume you
burning off the debris
that seems to choke you
and you will not say
"what took you so damned long?"
but simply
"You're here."
And it will be the truth
of your deepest space,
an utterly unmistakeable.
