you should know that you're stuck with me

and i'm stuck with you
even though 
and maybe because
we're now realizing we didn't know each other
through and through
like in the poems and greeting card cliches
and accumulated romantic baggage
of a thousand years
sometimes only tears
are enough
to express how I feel about you
sometimes it's laughter that comes easy 
and feels right
i don't want to fight you ever again
my comrade my love my friend
i know it's real because i don't need reasons
because i don't expect logical answers anymore
because love isn't logical
because love is wanting 
to sit on your front porch with someone 
and watch fireflies and hold hands
and walk a mile in the dark to the river
just to see the lights
on the water
