Balance

Relationships are a funny thing
Such extremes lie within them
There is happiness as high as heaven
Yet there is sadness and frustration too

Each person is a half
And each half makes a whole
The two halves struggle with their differences
Like an old-fashioned scale
Trying to obtain balance

They always say that love is like fine sand
That if you hold it too lightly
It slips through your fingers
And falls away
Yet if you grab ahold and grip too tight
It is forced out between the cracks
And is lost

This same sand fills each half of the scales
And when one side gets too heavy
The sand pours over the side
But lean too far the other way
And it spills out the other side

We are trying to master
The everlasting art of balancing our love
Eventually the balance will be just right
And together we will float in happiness
As high as the heavens
And our love will never slip
Through those treacherous cracks

Each half's needs are different
And change from day to day
We just have to remember
To let the other know
When to add more to our scale
And when to add more to the other side
