eclipse

we went to watch the
solar eclipse

forgoing our usual
sunday night routine

there was no eclipse

i remember that the most

but also there was
the grass beneath my body
the sun on my face

the way you convinced me
to let you photograph
my freckled face and
unkempt hair

and i remember
watching you standing in
the setting sun

aiming your camera
at the trees

and i remember
thinking that
even if there was an eclipse
i would still
be watching you
