Emotional Heroin

Emotional Heroin.

I am the drug of your senses --
you keep coming back for more of my poison.
             You are aware,
                           yet apathetic,
                                   of the effects...
and my sturgeons drop jewels in the sea of your soul.
                     I enjoy every moment,
watching you twist on the line,
        As I invade your bloodline,
Carrying my life into your heart,
                                     under your skin,
                                      into your brain --

                                      And you're addicted.
Shoot me up and feel the high --
I'll make you laugh and smile.
I'll make your world seem bright for a while --
Until the novelty is gone, that is --
For when my skin stops quaking
                     Your heart will start breaking
And my life will start taking
         a different course --
Leaving your wear for the worst.
And my guilt is a curse.
Because you were so...

The almost - perfect You picked up my syringe of a kiss
               And injected me...

                     You were the addict,
                                 but I couldn't leave.
