toes
i could put it simply
waiting for a response
so i watched his feet
when he walked
bathed
lay
how the feet would
lift his body
an inch higher
and when his heal reached
about an inch
off
the
ground
you could see his muscles
meeting in his legs
and i watch would those
tighten
recoil
push
his bare feet on the linoleum
dusty with cat hair
clinging to his
freshly showered
feet
his crinkly leg hair
now his toes
they are still
quiet repose
his toes
like his response
