how far

cry in the night and let the children
lay down their weary heads
tonight i hear your voice
calling from a distance greater
the distance between our hearts
how far are you now
that i no longer can touch you
or look at you while sleeping
how far are you that i can longer
know what the feeling was
when i was with you
not far enough that i can forget
what swollen eyes and uncried tears
feel like against lips that can't seem
to uncurl from the pain they are
releasing
when you were a dream i could believe
that you wouldn't wake me up
