Retrospect

In the mist of twilight, I came to see,
What I could, and could not be.
Had I seen, what I could have been,
I would be now, settling in.

Lest one conceive, a cry of despair,
Let me emote, a voice of repair.
This path taken, is not for lost,
For much was gained, from the roads I crossed.

Love and lust, and all that passion,
Came to me, in quite a fashion.
Malice and hate, I was not spared,
Though I can say, I never cared.
Pain and sorrow, I did receive,
But most of all, I did not deceive.

As the day grows dark, and night draws near,
I close my eyes, and see so clear.
The thought occurs, as I end the day,
Perhaps after all, I did have a say.
