A Tree Worth of Tissues

My wet eyes never were a match
for your
sharp tongue and untrusting nature
You once made fun of me
for crying
but when i looked up
and you saw the
hurt
  you were silent
  not apologizing, but silent
But when there were no tears
and no
innocent naive thoughts
  of you loving me
I had no defense.
My words were no match for yours
My voice was not loud enough
My attack was not prepared

And maybe now
you'd see the hurt
if i could
bring myself to look at you.
