An Old Blog

Happy Fourth of July Eve, citizens of the world! Fourth of July is my favorite holiday. I like freedom. And stars. And gaudy, shameless fireworks displays. And steaks on the grill, beer in the cooler.

I have many awesome Fourth of July memories, including the Jerry Jeff Walker concert by the river in Kerrville and Willie's Picnic in Luckenbach. I like the Fourth because it's not just a family thing...it's a community thing! No tension, no weeks of shopping, no eggs, no overrated chocolates. Just music and food and explosives.

Tonight we went to the Firework Supercenter. It was fun for Chris 'cause they don't sell fireworks in New York. Last summer everyone freaked out when I told them I mailed Chris a box of Black Cats and assorted patriotic party favors. "You could wind up in the pen!" my mom said. Silly me...I had no idea it was illegal. I'm a native Texan, what do you expect? Anyway, I've always wanted to go to the pen 'cause it'd give me a chance to catch up on my writing.

Back to the subject at hand...spent under twenty bucks at the supercenter on firecrackers and fountains and bottle rockets. Then we went to Albertson's and I got stuff to make a cake. Milk chocolate cake mix, fluffy white frosting and red and blue sparkler candles. I would've left it at that but Chris thought we needed some beer. The Rolling Rock looked pretty darn good to me but he went with the Molson Ice. "Canadians know how to make beer," he says. At least he didn't get Lone Star, thank goddess. ...I'm thinking of getting back into Wicca once we move to Nevada. Don't tell my mom.

The other night I had a strange dream about Carrot Top. I bought his book awhile back. I've always been attracted to goofy guys. But Chris isn't goofy. He worries sometimes that I'll leave him for a goofy man. I tell him I'm goofy enough for the both of us.
