just a message from my brother on the machine one measly message a few seconds of his voice and i am almost unhinged then i turn on the radio and i am definitely unhinged "daddy will be here on the 29th" of course he will and "Stairway to Heaven" is playing my favorite part, the obvious charm and I remember Mom telling me once that daddy was a humiliation at Uncle Greg's high school graduation with his long stringy hair and sandals sandals showing his toes!!! at a high school graduation!!! and he loved Led Zepelin and he dropped acid once and saw Satan and screamed at him from a tree in his Fruit of the Looms waving his King James Bible and then there was the time he tried to rape Mom's best friend but back to the song I think of Daddy listening to it on his 8-track and Uncle Scotty and Uncle Greg listening to it on theirs and well it's been a long time a long, lonely time daddy daddy daddy i still call him by that two-syllable Southern fried name he calls and says "what do you do with yourself all day?" well, daddy i work at a childcare center down the road it's my first lead teacher job i've always just been a teacher's aide until now "that's it? don't you sunbathe or go swimming?" uh...no? no, daddy I don't sunbathe or swim sometimes on a whim i drive around without purpose just to sing along with tapes I've had since 1994 sometimes I walk around in a store dazed, not sure what I need or want but you'll be here on the 29th I've got a lot of cleaning to do. |
