Shoestrings Running late for work.... What shoes should I wear... Fall is in the air... So it's time to wear my favorite black boots... Remember the shoestrings that came with the boots? Over and over you watched me tie them... Because the shoestrings wouldn't stay tied... Until one day in a small town you took me to Kmart... You wouldn't tell me why we were there... You said you wanted to simplify my life... You said that you knew it would make me happy... Because the littlest things make me happy... You asked me to hold your arm, And to close my eyes... That you would be my guide... This was so fun! So I did... You accused me of peeking... Although I did not peek... I bumped into aisles... We were giggling through the store... After you paid the cashier and the item was in the bag... You told me I could open my eyes... But I would not receive the prize until we got inside your truck... And then you asked for me to give you my feet... When you unlaced and took off my boots... You massaged my feet... I closed my eyes and nearly fell asleep... Then I heard you open the plastic bag... I listened so close and my eyes popped open... To my surprise you were lacing up my boots... Your big awkward fingers were sliding new black shiny laces... In the eyes of my shiny black boots... And I cried... Uh oh...Look at those boots... Haven't thought of them for months... Haven't thought of you either... Uh oh...I am crying again! |
