fifty years ago we vowed to honor and cherish the love we found in each other as two starry eyed teenagers we vowed to celebrate each other when healthy and rich to nurture each other when sick and poor before our family and friends we vowed to keep our union sacred and build a place where love could bloom like the craziest spring garden even in the midst of the darkest winter we vowed to love each other above all else and we meant it as we worked hard creating and supporting our family filling our home with laughter and adoration together we have seen America and the world rise and fall through half a century of changes and in the midst of all the chaos and wonder we have stayed together in awe of all the beauty and horror and together we have celebrated half a century worth of Christmases and Thanksgivings Valentine's Days and Easters Fourth of Julys and the birthdays of each other and our children and grandchildren our parents and siblings and cousins and together we have mourned the losses of those we love best we have kept pictures in our albums and in frames and told the sad stories and the funny stories to keep precious memories alive through it all we have had each other at the end of the day and when younger generations who are struggling as we once struggled ask How? we smile and tell them what we have always known It is Easy When You Have Chosen Your Best Friend. |
