She knew she was a bit slow on the uptake. She had been told that all her life."You have book smarts but you have no sense when it comes to real life.""You have the social skills of a retarded robot.""You are so clueless! God!" But still...she couldn't figure out why Seth had not called her since their date on Friday night. He had picked her up at eight. He had nodded his head and grinned with devilish delight when he saw her. She had worn a clingy black dress with spaghetti straps that showed her cleavage...black stiletto slings...Amor Amor by Cacharel cologne...big silver hoop earrings...Cosmo by M.A.C. lipstick...with her long tree bark brown hair piled atop her head, messy and sexy. Everything worked. There was chemistry. On the drive to Herberto's Casa de Tacos they had listened to Seth's Johnny Cash cd. Seth had kept looking over at her and shaking his head as he smiled."Damn," he kept muttering. Everything made sense. She was hot and shy and flushed and he wanted her very badly. She had no intention of giving it up. It was their first date, after all. They had met at a bowling alley the night before. The margaritas at Herberto's had been quite strong, however. After one she was giggling and saying crazy things, like,"Take me to Mexico. We can stay in a cheap motel room and taste test the tequila in the shops." Seth had just grinned smugly and said,"Whatever you want, baby. Whatever you want. Waitress, we need another margarita, por favor." Two more margaritas later, she was out of her head and shameless. They had kissed sloppy kisses at the table. Seth had even kissed her neck. She knew it wasn't smart to fuck a guy on the first date, especially if they had just met the night before. But it had been a good, lusty fuck with an intense afterglow. He had begged her to spend the night, so she did. In the morning they had fucked again. She had wanted to go out for ice cream, though, and Seth was not keen on the idea."You wore me out, baby. I just want to stay in bed." He wouldn't even drive her home. He paid for the taxi, though. As she thought of Seth while curled up in bed naked with Pink Floyd on the stereo, an old memory from childhood came to her, all of a sudden. She was at the roller rink with her Sunday school class from Bible Baptist Church. All the great pop songs from the '80s were playing. She was roller skating with her best friend, Krista. When her favorite song began to play, she screamed,"Woohoo!" and sang along and danced as she skated clumsily. Krista had given her a look of pure disgust and released her hand. Krista skated away and avoided her for the rest of the day. "Was it because the song was about a dirty magazine? Was it wrong of me to like 'Centerfold'? Was that it? Krista's married now and has two kids. She stays at home and...mops, I guess. Her husband is a youth minister. If we were to meet for tea, what would we talk about?" This is what she pondered. |
