no maria's in sante fe this year no driving the fifty miles home listening to the new paula cole cd in absolute silence because you're pissed off as much at yourself as the significant other next to you no what i think we'll do this valentine's day is spent it at your apartment your son taking our drink orders me depressurizing after speaking to stupid people for ten hours so the bills can be paid (why i'm still at that job can't really be explained - the pros and cons have been weighed so many times the fucking scale broke) but anyway later i'll go outside for a smoke and shorten my life a little bit more seeing your face through the sliding glass door and wondering again why you came along for the ride when the carnival by all rights should have been run out of town long ago |
