I was asleep when you left I think I recall your kisses and the soft throaty chuckle as I stole back the covers and burrowed back into dreams we were fishing off the porch of a house surrounded by water laughing and making the best of what was clearly a natural disaster I had a nibble on the line and you said it was probably a boot and I said boots don't have teeth and you laughed but they do have tongues and then we kissed while the water rose higher I woke when the wind blew made me shiver up out of the dream rising from the deep mystery it was cool next to my head the empty pillow and the sheets that felt like your laugh |
