The Ring's The Thing

So, every once in a while my ring finger starts to ache a little bit. No big deal, just a little bit of soreness...you know how your scalp hurts sometimes? Just this odd kind of surface discomfort? Kind of like that. So what I'll do is take the ring and put it on my other hand.

Man, is that confusing. My entire world feels a bit backwards. I turn left when I mean to turn right, driving becomes a bit surreal, and nothing seems to be in quite the right place.

Why is that? My body must be incorporating the ring into its map of the world. It must be easier for it to remember "turn towards the ring" than plain old "turn left" when trying to learn the layout of a place.
I guess, in a slightly corny but still true sense, my wedding ring has become part of me. It will forever influence how I perceive the world, on a very fundamental level. And I like the symbolism of that, since it mirrors how much Mo and I have become a part of each other.

I'm always wary of pushing the symbolism thing to far, otherwise I'd have to come up with excuses for the ring finger hurting in the first place, and Mo would have more of a reason to be upset when I take my ring off to spin on a table. (And it spins really well, almost looks like a silver sphere scooting along.)

It's funny when a symbol transcends its figurative meaning, and the literal aspect of it shines through.
