~Harem~ The Most Romantic Gift

When I opened his present, I was surprised and shocked.
We hadn't been dating that long. Inside was a keychain
with three keys on it. It also had my name engraged
on an oval gold plaque.

I didn't know what to think. I didn't know what to say.
I looked at each key one at a time.
"What's this one for?" - I asked.
He said that it was the key to his car.
"What's this second one for?" - I asked.
He told me that it was the key to his house.
"And what does the third key go to?" -
I asked with a puzzled Look.
He waited a long time, and blushed a little -
and then told me that it was The KEY to his HEART.

I was probably more stunned than happy, because we
were so brand new to each other.

I told him that it was too soon, and that I couldn't
accept all these keys. He told me to hold onto them,
and that when the time was right, I would have them
handy and ready to use.

It's been five years now. I have never used the key
to his car (I have my own car). I have never used
the key to his house (we live in mine) - But the third
key - I use it every day.

What a beautiful gift.

chris This is something along the lines of Harem's response... Just about a year ago, right before I left for Canada, my then-fiance gave me a silver engraved keychain that said, simply, "You hold the key to my heart". I carried that with me through those six weeks away from home. That, and the thought of the wonderful woman waiting for me, kept me warm in the cold Toronto winds.
i'm just him i was given a future with someone, but after 4 years it was tookin away. But still it was a gift worth unwraping

Cryingshame58 My most romantic gift is given to me "everytime" when our eyes, hearts and souls are locked in sync the instant before our lips meet to kiss...We can be anywhere and it's in that split second where we share our unspoken language of love that only we understand...
spaded Underwear and a can opener...lol. It showed me that when I talked he listened and I find that romantic.
Kirk A clay rose. Not clay, Fimo actually.
Misti A quickie divorce! I was set free into the angelic arc of my lover's arms!
stability Forgiveness...A second chance.
Ever Darby's answer is poetic.
