The Blender Survey Question

Okay, we asked what your favorite romantic movies were... Now give us your favorite romantic scene(s) from a movie... Up to three if you wish.
Misti 1. The scene in "Reality Bites" when Ethan Hawke apologizes to Winona Ryder and tells her he loves her. "All I Want is You" by U2 is playing. Powerful stuff.
2. The last scene in "An Officer and a Gentleman" when Richard Gere walks into the factory in his Navy class A's and puts his arms around Debra Winger then carries her away.
3. The scene in "She's So Lovely" when Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn are dancing in the club in New York.
Cyan The Movie: "Where the Heart Is"
The scene: Novalee tells Forney she lied when she told him she didn't love him.
wordley The film 'Ghost'... potter's wheel...Demi Moore & Patrick Swayze..."unchained melody" playing in the background
TJ Holland Natural Born Killers: Mickey and Mallory are standing on the bridge. They marry each other right there. Just the two of them. Mallory's scarf is wrapping around her neck, blowing in the wind, in a pseudo-murderous way. Mickey is so turned on. Mallory says, "I love you Mickey." Mickey says, "I love you Mallory."
TJ Holland Did you think I was serious??

Okay, here it is.... BraveHeart: William Wallace witnesses his love slain by the gutless Royal Guards. He rides into the village with his hands behind his head, in a display of surrender and supplication. In his mind he sees his love. Then he guts, slays and chops apart each and every slimy murderer he sees. Actually, the whole movie is romantic.
TJ Holland Okay okay okay....enough blood and guts.

Truly, the most romantic heartwrenching scene I think I've seen to date is in Gladiator as he lies dying. All the images that float through his mind. His wife, his children. Now and only now is he free of the lonliness and pain he has lived with for so long. Only now that he is joining them in death can he be with the woman and children that he loved so tenderly. Only now is their unjust death truly avenged.

Ummmm....(just a *little* blood and guts)

And THAT whole movie is romantic too.
sweetness My all-time favorite is from a tv mini-series, but it's "The Thorn Birds" when Ralph chases Meggie down a beach and they fall onto the sand in a passionate embrace...and you know what happens next.....
wordley Actually TEEJ you have jogged my memory with your "Gladiator' scene, I suddenly remembered that 'City of Angels', where Meg Ryan's character lay dying after being hit by a truck, and Nicholas Cage's character, the ex-angel, who had given up eternity to be with her, and now he was about to lose her,.... I'm big enough to say "I cried"!!...true, unconditional, if you love something, let it go love!!(sniff)

Oh, talking of love, has anyone on the blender read the story of Elouise and Abelard...no?....you really should!
Caravan of Dreams 1) anything between donna reed and jimmy stewart in its a wonderful life, 2) anything between the angel damiel and the trapeze artist marion in wings of desire - the movie they remade as city of angels, 3) the young lovers in a little romance - with a young diane lane and an old sir lawrence olivier
angieubaldo my favorite romantic sceen is at the end of "theres something about mary," when Ted is leaving and all bawling, then Mary comes out calling his name, and then she says, "You forgot your keys...",then she says, "did you really mean what you said back there?" then Ted says, " I just want you to be happy Mary," then Mary says, "but i'd be happiest with you," then he says, "what about Bret Favrrrrea?" LOL. Then she says, "what did I tell you when we first met? i'm a niners fan!" And then they kiss and then that old guy tired to shoot Ted, and Magda says, "What are you doing?" and the old man says, "thats my girl hes kissing!" then magda says, "but you just slept with me?!?" and he says, "I was just boning you to get to mary!"

LOL =)
Vishal Man I've been waitin to answer this even before it was asked, okay
1) City Of Angels, the whole movie but if I had to choose, when he asks her to describe what a pear tastes like, and then later when he's buying pears after she dies. That expression on his face. An Angel In Agony, classic!

Gonna think about the other 2
wordley The whole of 'What Dreams May Come' with Robin Williams...another one where I got 'something in my eye!'...sniff
Kendra143 Ooooh, Vishal you definately stole one of my three...but here's one that comes recently to mind:

"Life as a House", where Kevin Kline talks about how his ex-wife hated living in their old house, and she explains why she only hated the first and last year...and earlier, when they're driving and she is so completely annoyed at him, and he turns to her and tells her she's...what was it, "incredibly beautiful" (?). It's the frank honesty behind his words, long after their relationship is over that just kills me.
Jon Naked Gun: When Lesie Nielsons character Frank breaks up with his g/f and right before he leaves he turns around and says;

"Oh and just to let you know...I faked every orgasm."

Classic.

The Lady and the Tramp: that scene in the back alley where they chef gives them both a plate of spagetti and they both start to suck on the same noodle unaware of each other and then *SMACK* their lips meet. Sigh...I think I was a hopeless romantic from age five.

This last one may seem silly (as if the others werent') but I love the movie Bubble Boy. I love the scene when Chole (Bubble Boy's love interest) is telling him that she is getting married and then she gives him a present and inside the present is a gift that says "I love you." and poor old Bubble Boy can't leave his bubble because he'll die and Chole is already on her way out to get married. Ahh...that still gets me.
Chrissy I'm sure I'll remember another ...AHH...I just did! See what happens when you start to babble?
1) Singin' in the Rain -- When it was just revealed that Kathy was doing all the singing instead of What's Her Name(help me out) and she's running down the aisle and he yells "Stop that girl" and then sings to her.
2) The Princess Bride -- Any scene! Err...no. Specifically after Buttercup throws herself down the hill when she realizes it's Westley. He asks her if she can move and she says "You're alive. If you want I can fly."

Sigh...what happened to chivalry? :o)
TJ Holland I know I already had three, but there's TWO MORE that I forgot about that are incredible!

4. "Run Lola, Run" any interlude where Lola and Manni are lying in bed talking. Or when she is lying on the road (de ja vu in Princess & Warrior) and Manni is there. Or the scene with the song (composed by Tykwer and sung by Potente) where she sings "I wish I were a beating heart that never comes to rest."

5. "Princess and The Warrior" (same actress, Franka Potente, and writer/director, Tom Tykwer, as "Run Lola, Run") when Bodo saves Sissi's life under the semi-truck with tears rolling down his face even though he's not really crying and all Sissi's thoughts about this stranger are simultaneously spoken in her letter to Meinke. Then later when Bodo meets himself at the gas station and his 'self' gets in the drivers seat as he gets in the backseat. Bodo's un-cried tears again. The realization. The hands over the eyes. And Bodo finally lets himself out of the back seat of the car, gets in the front and drives away with Sissi, free to love her. Excellent!
(sorry about the pre-info if you haven't seen the movie!)
Vishal 2) Okay not a typical romantic movie, but, Goodwill Hunting. When Minnie Driver says to Matt Damon "It's not fair, I've been here 4 years, and I've only just found you"
And he says, "But you found me"
Hmmm, really gotta think about the last one. Only three?
Just Some Girl 1.) Crispin Glover tells Lea Thompson she is his "density" in "Back to the Future."
2.) Pre-vampiric Gary Oldman lugs Winona Ryder's lifeless body to the alter to rebuke God for her death in "Bram Stoker's Dracula."
3.) John Cusack holds his boom-box to Ionie Sky's window playing "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel in "Say Anything."
sweetness Russell Crowe slaps Kim Basinger after he finds out she slept with his rival in "L.A. Confidential"...it's the vulnerability and the tears in this violent thugs eyes that get me.....what woman wouldn't want the awful power to hurt a man as tough as Officer Bud White?
Misti Hey...what about the last scene in "Urban Cowboy" when Bud and Sissy are leavin' Gilley's? Bud's friend Marshall goes,"Hey, are you sure I can't buy you a beer?" Bud says,"No way. We're goin' home." Marshall: "Hell, I'll buy you two beers!" Bud just waves his hand and gets in the truck with Sissy. ((((sigh))))
And I still love the scene in "Grease" when John Travolta sees Olivia Newton John and does a double take and she says,"Tell me about it...stud."
And that scene in "Singles" when the guy (I forget his name) goes,"What took you so long?" and Kyra Sedgwick goes,"I was stuck in traffic."
Okay, I need to go to bed now.
Violet 1) The last scene in My Fair Lady when Eliza comes back and says "I washed me face 'n 'ands before I come, I did." *big sigh* There is so much unspoken love in that scene.

2) In The Sound of Music (I know, I am musical crazy) where Maria and the Captain are in the gazeebo, admitting how much they love one another... "here you are, standing there, loving me..." *another big sigh*

3) The end of 'That Thing you do' when he asks Faye about the last time she was really truly kissed. Then he plants one on her to beat the band.... god i love that movie.

4) Yes, I'm naming four. If everyone else can cheat, so can I. George Clooney (mmmm) and Michelle Pfiefer in "One Fine Day" When he says "What would you do if I kissed you right now?" It makes me shiver to hear him speak those words. (Yeah, I'm a real big Clooney fan.)

There are so many more... but those are the ones from the top of my head. Now you are all certain that I am the sap you expected me to be... *hangin' my head in shame* :-P
J-Dub That's easy.......3)The diner scene from "When Harry met Sally" you know when Meg Ryan faked the orgasm to prove her point...that was classic. 2)Anytime that Jenna Jameson makes love on camara. People that know what I'm talking about...Know what I'm talking about.....that chick is bad and I mean bad in a good way. She's just thunder.....and #1)When the guy in casablanca walked of into the fog and said "This is could be the start of beautiful friendship" that's easily the most romantic scene from any movie.
Kirk Huh, I'm surprisingly bad at thinking of anything really good for this. I guess I find most movie stuff a little too simple.

Not immediately romantic, but a guy telling a story, from Cinema Paradiso:
http://loveblender.com/prose/cinema.html

I thought "Forces of Nature"'s final confrontation in the slowed down storm was great, especially since it went against the grain of where cliches say the movie is going.

Also, the ending of "Henry and June", where Anais decides that her future is with Hugo, that there's more love there than with the furious passion with Henry or June.
Jennifer Sweet November...the ending scene where she is telling him that she loves him but she wants him to remember her the way she is now, not when she is sick and on her last days, then she ties her scarf over his eyes and has him find her once more and he goes straight to the place she had stopped at and when he opens his eyes she is gone. Also the part where it's Thanksgiving and he comes in dressed as Santa with a bag full of gifts for her, wach one having a sentimental meaning that connects to something in the relationship. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it!
Jennifer (in the first one, wach was meant to be each...lol)
2)Autumn In New York~almost the whole movie...after he cheats on her and he is talking to his friend about how he can't take it that she is dying, he couldn't handle losing her like that, and then when he goes back to her and then when he is trying so hard to find a doctor and then of course when he is decorating the Christmas tree and when he calls for her to come and look and she doesn't come...he goes looking for her and finds her laying on the floor and at the end when the music is playing and the doctor comes out and is talking to him, all you can hear is the music but the look on his face and his actions tell you the she died. (I hope everyone has already seen the movie, if not then I just told you the whole thing...I hate when that happens to me)
Vishal I'm going to name four too,
3) Phenomenon, when John Travolta asks her "Do you think you could love me for the rest of my life?"
And Kyra Sedgewick replies "No, but I will love you for the rest of mine!" Of course he is about to die from a brain tumour, but still.
4) Untamed Heart, Marisa Tomei is trying to convince Christian Slater to have a heart transplant and he refuses because "I love you with all of my heart, you are my peace"
When she explains that the heart is not literally an organ of love (he's a little simple minded)he replies, "then why does it hurt so much here, when you're not with me."
Beautiful film.
Jennifer Vishal, you are so right about Untamed Hearts...I had forgotten all about that movie and it's one of my all time fav's!
3)Call me crazy, but Moulin Rouge....the part where Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor sung parts of several songs to make one love song, it was the best part of the movie. The other would be the end, where they finally have the play and Ewan is begging Nicole to explain to him why she said she loved him and then told him she didn't and it was all a lie then in the end they finally get to be together and she tells him that she really does love him and she always had, then she dies.
wordley Oh shit, I've just re-viewed a film that has again left me with (sniff) something in my eye!!
'Mission To Mars" with Tim Robbins, Gary Sinese And Connie Nielsen (out of Gladiator), where they hve had a catastrophe aboard their ship and have decided to evacuate to the Mars orbiting ship 'REMO'. Things go wrong and Tim Robbins's Character is adrift in space and his wife (Connie Nielson) tries to assist him but puts her self in danger too.She insists in her rescue attempt but Bud(Tim) knows it is pointless, so bids her love and farewell and opens his suit to space, a poignant and extremely moving scene. I defy ANYONE to watch it with a dry eye !!
splatipus How are we supposed to choose only 3?
City of Angels is definately in there somewhere, and Ghost of course. However, ones that immediately sprang to mind for me are the latest (but quite old now) BBC version of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy and Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth. That scene where Mr. Darcy gets out of the lake with his wet white shirt is orgasmic of course. Then theres the other scene where Elizabeth is at Darcy's "house" (after the marriage proposal fall out)and Darcys sister is playing the piano with Elizabeth turning the pages and Mr Bingleys sister makes some comment about Wickham that makes Elizabeth realise that Darcy was telling the truth and they just look at each other across the room with smouldering eyes, music soars etc (you have to have seen it to know what I'm on about). Then another is Colin Firth (again - I'm a bit of a fan) at the End of Bridget Jones Diary when she says "Wait a minute, nice boys dont kiss like that" and he says "yes they fucking do" Phwor - that voice
Finally, Highlander, when his first wife gets old and dies.
Ali Never Been Kissed...The end scene between Drew Barrymore and Michael Vartan--damn that looked like an amazing kiss!

More to follow later...My brain isn't working yet...
