The Blender Survey Question

What is your favorite Christmas tune (and version), and why?
tj holland I have three Christmas songs that I have loved since I was a little girl. I'm not sure which versions they were, but my mom had this LP (that's a vinyl record, for you young'uns) with a bunch of Christmas songs on it...I would listen to "Little Drummer Boy", "Go Tell It On The Mountain" and "Do You See What I See" over and over and over again.
Misti "Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley. Or maybe "I'll Be Home For Christmas" by the Beach Boys. Too bad Buddy Holly never put out a Christmas album. Too bad Nirvana never put out a Christmas album. If Kurt Cobain had recorded an ironic rendition of "Silver Bells," why, that would have won me over hands down.
scqueen Well, after the entire 'Elvis Christmas Album', I would have to say Stevie Nicks' version of 'Silent Night' from 'A Very Special Christmas'. It's absolutely chilling.

"The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra (Eugene Normandy) because it reminds me of childhood.

Violet Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas", Jewel's version of "O Holy Night" and Johnny Mathis' "Winter Wonderland" Oh and Barbara Streisand does a great Jingle Bells. :-) I adore Christmas music!
B.K. John & Yoko and The Plastic Ono Band with the Harlem Community Chior singing "Happy Xmas (war is over)" This one makes me cry.

If you can get your hands on "Have Yourself A Tractors Christmas" CD or MoJo Nixon I think it's X rated ha. Alas I think both are hard to come by. The first will make you smile and dance. The second is for fun and a wee bit naughty. (but you can dance to it too) ha

Kirk "Sleigh Ride", the one they used to have in a GAP ad. I love the big brass "let's go blue" that comes in underneath.
lulu cornnia-
thanks you really made my day. it feels alot better to know im not the only one who feels like this. write me back plez
p.s. here a quote from a song that i really like-
"lately i feel dead inside, like all my guts have dried up and died"-alkaline trio's 'my little needle'

Tanqueray Cowboy I don't know if it can be called a "Christmas" song per se but I think it's close enough...

Jackson Browne's "The Rebel Jesus."

(Recommended listening from the Tanqueray Cowboy)
Chances are The Christmas Blessing - I get teary every time I hear it.
May the feet of God walk with you, and his hand hold you tight.
May the eye of God rest on you, and his ear hear your cry.
May the smile of God be for you, and his breath give you life.
May the Child of God grown in you, and his love bring you home.
shadowboxer I personally hate christmas for the commercializd theme its disgrased itself for. However, there actually is a x-mas tune or two, that I dont mind hearing, just to boost me somewhat.
The Waitresses-"christmas wrapping"
Eartha Kitt-"Santa baby"
The Jazzy theme they play in "A Charlie Brown Christmas"
...jingle bell rock never hurts,

, "its beginnning to look alot like christmas", by I at the moment completely forget who, and the whistling version of "Oh Christmas Tree" on the Corona Beer commercial, although I prefer the wholesome beachside setting, and comforting sky and wind, and trees in the commercial ( not making myseld a hypocrite about me 'buying' into anything, especially since I despise beer, and just love the motif of the commercial),
since I used to be able to have that sweet nighttime beach feeling, scented wind and all. Last summer should have never ended.

shadowboxer disgraced*...just in case someones wants to try and correct me, I beat you to it.
shadowboxer ...as well as practically every song on Tim Burtons beautifully mastered film, "the Nightmare Before Christmas", which I admired completely since I first caught word of it...Dont fear, I dont fit in with the conventional holes who need to feel secure in some trend to find their place, which further stresses their facade.
CryingShame58 Away In A Manger...it's like a lullaby...All year long I sang it to my children (babies) when I rocked them to sleep...Also one other favorite holds a special memory for me...My Father always liked Noel and would sing it loud and strong from the "Eve of Christmas Eve" through Christmas Day.
RennieLorca One of my favs is: "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" since I care so much for my friends ... but I'll gladly sing along with any merry, happy holiday song ..... Rennie
Inflatable Sushi Christmas Kisses (by Ray Anthony & His Orchestra - great female vocals, very 60s - a Christmas Lounge Classic)

All the other good ones were already picked.
Liz "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" sung by just about anyone...also "I Believe in Santa Claus" from "A Year WIthout a Santa Claus..."
Echolocation For the words - Adeste Fideles (O Come All Ye Faithful in Latin) because I like the formality and elegance of Latin. And I'm not Christian, so having it in a foreign language makes it easier to just enjoy the song and ignore the irrelevant bits! For the music - Angels We Have Heard on High, for the vocal aerobics in the chorus.
Echolocation Ooh - forgot about Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' version of Little Drummer Boy. Most excellent.
spaceman "Christmas is the Time to Say I Love You" by Billy Squier.
hms In the Bleak Midwinter--both the music & the words are so spare and beautiful, and speak to a cold-climate New Englander!
"In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan
earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone.
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow.
In the bleak midwinter, long, long ago.

* then a verse about the baby born in a stable..., then

What shall I give him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would give a lamb.
If I were a wise man, I would do my part,
Yet what I have I give him, give my heart."
spaded ok so it is not a christmas tune, but you are most likely to hear it at christmas....walking in a winter wonderland.

as for a actual christmas tune, probably hark the herald angels sing
jimmyallgrownup "Deck the Halls (Don We Now Our Gay Apparel)" by the Village People. This came from their (alas) now out-of-print 1979 Australia-only release. Very hard to come by in the States. Christmas disco at its best.
