Personally, I don't mind the font--or the grey. But for the record, my favorite font is garamond.
As for a redesign the site contest--aside from my lack of design skills (which are weak, at best), I totally wouldn't feel right about that. This site is Kirk's, and messing with it would feel like trespassing.

A contest might be a bit much but in general I'm open to suggestions.
The biggest question mark for me now is what the working viewing page will look like... how the newmatic viewer will work w/ the header I'd like to get on every page, if I can think of adding some kind of context sensitive "next work / previous work" thing to , and also the idea of adding comments directly to the work, etc

I really highly recommend not appending comments directly to the work: that's what AllPoetry does, and it doesn't encourage rough and ready browsing: it almost encourages the opposite: egotistic poets who read and post commenst only on each other's work, kind of a freeform mutual appreciation society. I actually really like the way the comments direct to the discussion bard: I have seen some works recommended that I would not have given a second look to if they hadn't... I don't always have the time to read everywork posted here, so I often look for the ones that peops that I like or respect or admire have commented on and read them, when in search of a quality shot of poetry. so.,.. please don't change that? :)

and um, oh also, Kirk, I'd really like link buttons back to the submissions and front pages from down here at the bottom of the discussion page? I have to scroll back up and I want it easier! :)

/sigh. You have a rustic styling to your work, what feels like unintentioanl slips in tense, that makes it feel more heartfelt. this is not a studied rarified piece of literature, it is an honest statement of true emotion. I like that. also, the first line grabs solidly.

About the comments under each poem, I think that comments should go in both places...so if I'm reading a poem by Ali, and I comment (right on that page) about it, it should show up on that page AND on the main board...for the skimmers and the deep readers.

Violet , about 2 am: glad someone commented on this, cause I had missed it. What an amazing piece...made me wonder what my wife thinks, or thought...back then, we're beyond breast feeding, but not too far beyond ;-)

I agree with brianna, I'd rather see comments strictly on the message board not under names. Reminds me of other sites and we don't want to be like anyone but the blender. (Unique!)
