How many times have I left this place only to return and annoy people further? I've lost count. I haven't been writing or attempting to get my stuff published. I've been working my ass off at Victoria's Secret Direct, recommending the Body By Victoria racerback bra to every other client because "the straps don't slip down." I've been taking advantage of my 40% discount. Oh, and a few weeks ago I got to meet one of my all time favorite writers...the inimitable Tom Robbins. I discovered Tom Robbins my first semester at SWT in '92 when I read Another Roadside Attraction. "Let Amanda be your pine cone" is the best last sentence I've ever read. So I spent $25 on the Villa Incognito hardback and got Tom's autograph. This chick introduced me to Tom as "Misti" so he was confused when I asked him to inscribe the book to Kim Wu. I said,"That's my alter ego." He admired my Hindu chick metal lunchbox that I carry as a purse and then burst my bubble when he said,"I've seen that around Seattle." I gave him a book of my best poems and some collages and newspaper editorials I wrote for the Index back in '99. He said,"This is for me? Bless your heart." So I was floating.

I want to write another screenplay but I might try to write another novel instead. I trashed the first two because they sucked. First I have a lot of books to read. Right now I'm reading Live or Die by Anne Sexton. The last poem in the book is called Live, ironically enough.

Look this is called ebonics. I have nothing against it but myself i do not talk it. It was made up by the african american heritage and now is in what we call rap. If you think it is innopropriate then dont tell us that. Look they have classes now in colledge on how to speak ebonics it is like learning any other foreign language but its not foreign. Yes i do so myself think it is crazy but now days people what they call poems are flows practically words that just ryhme with one another even having no meaning what so ever. the world is changing faster than we ever give it credit for. Look at technology it has moved extremely fast and african american and wemons right have moved so fast. not saying that every change is good but it is change and we have to get use to these changes or get left behind. So i guess i cant change how people talk but just wanted to inform you on these things lol i know when we get older we loose track of some of the new things going on in life. and about the mature issue kids that you get to mature to fast end up being what people call physco. There was a old musician i learnt about in music appreciation who his parents made him mature to fast he never had a childhood he was writing and composing music at the age of 8 years old. He died a young man at the age of possibly like 35. He died writing music for his death. It is know that if kids mature to fast then they will not live aslong. I know you think im crazy probably but so be it i reckon. Age has nothing to do with maturity or intellect.
Hey everyone, thank you all for the subs this month. They're all much appreciated. I just had to let you all know. (Due to my un containable joy) After 7 months of being away and working on a cruise ship, my girlfriend finally came back to me yesterday. I was missing her so much, and now that she's back, I love her so much more. It's true, absence does make the heart grow fonder! I'll be submitting many more pieces in the next while, mostly of the happier nature.
So incredibly happy, and very much in love.
Toon; you either gotta be talking about Mozart or Michael Jackson. (poor Michael only died in spirit) As for rap or ebonics, make it flow, raz a ma taz us with it don't let it dribble down your chin like a second grader. Make us gobble the words like candy not avoid them like SARS. We love the differences, we don't want everyone alike, that's like a greasy gravy death itself. Even Mohammad Ali is a poet. Float like a butterfly, Sting like a bee, the difference is he makes us ALL understand. That's what this site is about making us all understand where you are coming from. That is how we get to know your writing style and a little of you as a person.
Carol and Jessica (Ligsil), all of you, have poured out your hearts here in an almost daily diary. Didn't get folks reading until you messed with the comments board. Tone it down and write some love poetry. That's what we've tried to say to you, and what we're here for, Mack. Some of us are old farts here, and you're not going to teach us much we don't already know. Repetition bores the beans outta us. I haven't forgotten a thing about being a kid, and stay current like the rest of the adults here. You might find some adults with their heads in the sand some place else, but not here. Maturity comes when you realize that. We're caring and creative people on the Blender community -- who pay attention. Go to boot camp, realize you can't bs and dazzle everybody. You want to see an adult deal with something: My apologies IF you think I hurt any of your feelings in any way ... (with the sidebar): but you bother mine (and others) in dragging stuff on this board that doesn't belong here. I expressed an opinion about the cutting when it got to be a project here ... and I am making a statement about inappropriate behavior for kids OR adults in the forum that is the comments board. I am not some kindly mom or parent trying to guide you in this. This issue has seen enough daylight. You want to be mature and heal a rift here? ... write some poetry about love ..... Rennie
LoL- Ever Heard of Mozart Look im a good kid not trying to start any arguments im not saying im educated. and whats wrong with Controversy i see nothing wrong with it. and what makes a person a poet? One who is especially gifted in the perception and expression of the beautiful or lyrical. well i dont see myself as being gifted at all and if that is the case then are Musicians Poets? They write their feelings threw quarter notes half notes sixtenth notes and also in diffrent Time signatures for the speed. Look im a kid i have alot to learn i like arguing its just me being who i am and a teenager but if i argue and ask question then i can learn things from older people. I love sitting down with elders they may teach me alot but then again you will be suprised what a kid could teach the elders themselves. I just like learning knew things and im not the person who is more involved in learning just one thing but learning a little about everything.
I've been submitting and posting at the Blender on and off since '97. When I first started coming here my stomach would get tied up in knots. I was very nervous, wondering what people thought of my writing. Whenever people criticized I went ballistic, probably because I didn't have much of a life and I placed way too much importance on my Internet life. Even as recently as this past year I have gotten too emotionally involved with people I've only "met" online and the bottom line is, that was very idiotic and destructive of me. I'm not proud of any of it.

I love writing. I have to write. I am endlessly inspired and awestruck. I love reading great writers. My favorites include Charles Bukowski, Tom Robbins, Henry Miller, Erica Jong, Sandra Cisneros, Kurt Vonnegut and a lot of obscure writers whose names I forget or can't spell. Oh, and Ntozake Shange.

When I read stuff that isn't so great, I don't comment on it. Why bother? Who am I to criticize or teach? Some people aspire to emulate their favorite writers and produce something they can proud of. That's what I aspire to and I rarely succeed. Other people just...write. That's certainly their prerogative.

But if you're going to just dash something off, be prepared to be taken to task for it. In America we are innundated with mediocrity and shameless crap on a daily basis. We should aspire to something greater. Blah blah blah. Didn't mean to get all pedantic. Uggh.

btw, I've been hanging out on the JANE boards lately and I've noticed that the community is a lot more fun when you play games through which you get to know people better. The latest game is the Band Name Game. The person who starts it off names a random band and the next person has to name a band that's name begins with the last letter of the previous band. Maybe we could do the same thing but make it artists instead of bands. That's pretty general so it should be interesting. Painters, poets, novelists, whatever.

Global Warming - A NASA Report

I believe general knowledge is more important than mere poems on love failure. Good luck and All the best to all of you.

************************************************************

Twenty-five years ago if you made a trip to the local library and perused the periodical section for articles on global warming, you’d probably have come up with only a few abstracts from hardcore science journals or maybe a blurb in some esoteric geopolitical magazine. As an Internet search on global warming now attests, the subject has become as rooted in our public consciousness as Madonna or microwave cooking.
Perhaps all this attention is deserved. With the possible exception of another world war, a giant asteroid, or an incurable plague, global warming may be the single largest threat to our planet. For decades human factories and cars have spewed billions of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and the climate has begun to show some signs of warming. Many see this as a harbinger of what is to come. If we don’t curb our greenhouse gas emissions, then low-lying nations could be awash in seawater, rain and drought patterns across the world could change, hurricanes could become more frequent, and El Niños could become more intense.

On the other hand, there are those, some of whom are scientists, who believe that global warming will result in little more than warmer winters and increased plant growth. They point to the flaws in scientists’ measurements, the complexity of the climate, and the uncertainty in the climate models used to predict climate change. They claim that attempting to lower greenhouse emissions may do more damage to the world economy and human society than any amount of global warming. In truth, the future probably fits somewhere between these two scenarios. But to gain an understanding of global warming, it is necessary to get to know the science behind the issue.

Global warming, or for that matter any substantial warming of the Earth’s surface, begins with the sun. Except for relatively small fluctuations due to sunspot activity, the amount of radiation from the sun that reaches the Earth has been fairly constant from year to year and century to century. If you were to travel to the outer reaches of the atmosphere and hold up a flat surface perpendicular to the sun’s rays for several years during the daylight hours, you’d find that about 1,368 Watts per square meter on average would hit that surface.

Not all of that energy would be absorbed by the Earth. Roughly 30 percent of the total solar energy that strikes the Earth is reflected back into space by clouds, atmospheric aerosols, reflective ground surfaces, and even ocean surf. The remaining 70 percent is absorbed by the land, air, and the oceans. The absorbed light is mostly in the form of ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared solar radiation.

The severity of these environmental changes will be largely dependent on how much the Earth’s surface warms over the next century. As the wide range of estimates for average global surface temperature suggests, researchers haven’t exactly reached a consensus. The reason for the wide range simply comes down to the difficulty inherent in predicting the outcomes of current trends in both human society and the Earth’s climate system.
