Thank you, and, yes, it is too bad when that happens. But oh well. :-)

Kendra

Thank you I'm glad you liked it, and I have to say your pieces so far have been great as well.

Well I'm running short on time. Gotta study! Darn professors giving us tests, as if we didn't have enough homework already here at UCLA! Ack! But somehow I still find the time to write a piece for the blender? Hmm...if I get an F on my next exam I'm blaming it on you guys. Hehe jk.

Take care and all that good stuff.

Ok...

Lemac~~

I harbour secret suspicions that you're a poetry wizard/genius...the yawp was brilliantly subtle, and the works are fabulous. I'm excited everytime I see your name on new submissions.

Laurel (Jeni?)~~

Obviously you have fabulous taste...seeing Moulin Rouge was the first thing I did with my boyf...actually we saw it before we were official, when there was just this huge chemistry and electricity...leaves me with wonderful memeories! And I can quote almost every line from WHMS, and I cry every time she says

"All this time I've been saying he didn't want to get married, when the truth is he didn't want to marry me!"

*ensue crying on her part and mine*

Jon~~

Thanks, you're definately one of my favorites on here...and I can't believe you're probably the same age as the guys I date, but seem so much more...something!

Is UCLA neat? I've always thought that place sounded so fun...you know, endless parties, studying on the beach :-)

Gorgon/Lemac....

Is there absolutely NO WAY OneNut/Mark would never take you back? I mean, maybe you screwed him over and maybe vice versa, but it sounds like you both carry a HUGE FLAMING HIGH POWERED ROCKET FULE BURNING torch for each other still! Talk about angst! Whew!! But then again, maybe you'd just destroy each other into oblivion if you tried again. Once burned.....

It's just that the peoptry that comes out of your guy's whole ... thing ... is very good! Perhaps the worst loves make the best poetry.

Either way, I wish you both peace and happiness.

Oh, TJ!!

I think you may have me confused with another. I ain't THAT girl!!

But it does seem as if you are walking about with a certain sensitivity about that McNabb!!! I think you want him! Admit it, you feel rebuffed that he may not feel the same!!

"Oh, Mark, how they all gang up on you!! How sad! Those mean hussies!!"

When it smells like $^#$#@, it generally is!

From: TJ Holland

Strange, Gorgon...that you have such a vehement reaction to my innocent postings...'Curiouser and curiouser', said Alice....But my, you are SMART! OOh! You found me out Gorgon Snake Head! I LOOOVE Mr. McNabb!! I do! I do! And woe is me, that my love is unrequited. What ever shall I do?? I have always had a thang for the insanely intelligent. Especially ones that are virtual, like McNabb. I like loving men via internet so that I keep a certain detachment. And sex is better that way too! You see, not only am I in LOVE with Markie Mark, I'm also a big fat heiffer that can't leave the house and I'm hoping he never finds out! But you're a smart woma... er ...person, so you probably already figured that out, didn't you?

Now that you got me all figured out. I ought to go slip into another personality. But naw.....I prefer to be myself at ALL times!! (aside from sarcastic missives such as this) Soooooooooooo..........I'll just keep posting my shitty poetry and forgetting that there are SOME people who take the internet and it's e-tanglements (Oh, my! I'm quoting my boyfriend McNabb again!!) seriously. {People are strange when you're a stranger...people are ugly when you're alone....} Peace to ya, Gorgon!

It strikes REALLY close to home right now too, so I haven't been able to actually make it through that lately without turning into a mess. Ha! About "Jeni", I had my friend type in what I'd written down in the ol' notebook while I was getting all my stuff together, and she signed her name...lol...Next time I'll stop being lazy and make it accurate!

After reading the above messages, I thought I should warn "TJ Holland" to watch out for this "Gorgon" person...sounds like you all DO know each other, as I had asked earlier when I started participating here.

FYI, the Gorgons are three HIDEOUS sisters from Greek mythology. It is said that they live in the far west (California girls? lol) and are the offspring of sea-gods. Insead of hair, they have live snakes; their necks are covered with scales; they have tusks like a boar's, golden hands and bronze wings. It is said, that the Gorgon Medusa, was once a beautiful maiden, but because of her boasting that she was even more beautful than Athena, the goddess of wisdom stripped her of all her beautiful qualities leaving her the hideous monster of infamy. As we all know, Medusa has the power to turn anyone who gazes upon her to stone because of her appearance (so TJ Holland, maybe Gorgon IS the big fat heffer lol) Unlike her sisters though, Medusa is mortal, and is killed by Perseus with the aid of Athena and Hermes. Her sisters, the other gorgons, are named Stheno and Euryale.

I wonder which one the LoveBlender's Gorgon is??? lol

You all are pretty bitchy here, aren't you?

From: Ophelia
Date: 2 February 2002

JUST KIDDING!!!

And Gorgon, I do like your works - are you new to this site too? Thanks for the compliment about catching the Whitman - I used to teach writing and mythology before I sold my sould to a man named Arthur Andersen (yes, the Enron one)!

my thoughts exactly. It's really obvious what the guy is all about...that's why he shouldn't be complimented or encouraged. I'm sure he's Gorgon and a whole host of others. He's obviously an expert shit stirrer upper.

Ophelia~
Yep, and I'm the bitchiest of em all. Yesterday on the phone this lady (I field phone calls for AARP)told me to take a "sweet pill" and hung up on me. Absolutely crushed my spirit. I'm wounded for life. Ha.

From: TJ Holland
Date: 2 February 2002

Ophelia,

I've liked both poems and each comment you've posted so far. You seem pretty cool.

And yes, sometimes things get bitchy here. Par for being human I guess. I usually try to stay out of it all, but sometimes I get bored and jump into the fray. I can't figure out why, really. I work two jobs, averaging 60-70 hours a week and I have two children to raise on my own. You'd think I don't have a spare moment to waste with cyber-freakishness, but I manage to squeeze it in. At least I don't take it seriously. THAT would be pathological! HA!

Anyway, Gorgon Snake Head doesn't bother me. And I think it's poetry is great, as I was saying in my original note to her/him. Hope Gorgon keeps posting.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. Now, where are some works by you this month? Come on girl...get to writing! :-)

As for life at UCLA. It really isn't that hard to find a party any day of the week, but usually the only one's partying on weekdays are the ones that are on academic probation, so having fun is pretty much reserved to the weekends. Although, its not hard to meet someone here, as many girls here have been the subject to many of my pieces. I really don't know why I'm getting so lucky with meeting all these women (I think they're forgetting I'm ugly?) But yeah, the beach is a drive away, but there is just so much going on in campus, its like a self sustained town of its own almost, that you really don't feel the need to visit the outside world heh.

Take care and all that good stuff.

I was an idiot! And it's GREAT to see you back! I'll start posting more at the Respite once I'm settled in Albuquerque. I've been packing boxes and trying to hold down my job for a couple of more weeks. It's harder than it should be, what with me forgetting to pop those "sweet pills" and all. Ha! And anyone who sends a nut like me a box filled with goodies (Mrs. Field's fudge! My god! And PEZ and magnets and a yummy smelling little bottle of cologne!)could not be classified as a bitch.

To anyone who wonders about the Blender community and the reality of the connections here, all I can say is that I've definitely done my share of psycho mud slinging and role playing since '97 and I've pissed more than a few people off, but I've also made friends who I truly respect and care about...including my husband. Chris. Not Chad.

From: TJ Holland
Date: 2 February 2001

Naw, Ophelia...you didn't make a mistake. Nor did Gorgon, or anyone else for that matter. You just have to have a thick skin is all. I, myself, am a Rhino! Your stuff is good. And you seem intelligent. Stay a while and get to know the natives. They're restless, yes...but they can't hurt you, really. See The Blender and It's People to get one perspective on how it is here! :-)

I think a couple of the people who post here might know each other in 'real life', but not many. I've never met any of them myself. It's not necessary. This is a place to submit your poetry. Doesn't matter why. Just do. All the rest is a crazy diversion.

"my mind bends
to take the curves
of the tracks you've laid
a diverging road is what this is
my river beside your road
reflects the i in your sky

to echo the you in your words
a diverging echo is what this is"

Michelle -- yeah, I guess I've been neglectful of the Blend-o-Matic for a bit. If you like the general concept of well-chosen quotes, rather than just ones about romance, you can check out http://kisrael.com/quotes/ -- and http://kisrael.com itself is regularly updated with quotes as well. (Every once in a while I go through that journal and harvest it for my quote generator...and now I guess I need to harvest my quotes for blend-o-matic relevant ones, along with the past top entries from the Blender Digest.)

Ophelia, that http://www.lavalife.com link points out a bug with my "make a URL" feature... I guess URLs at the end of a line get screwed up. I should work to fix that.

Well now Ms Butz has posted her picture and I do believe an apology is in order from me. Ophelia if this is truly you then please accept my apology and know that we have had so many wierdo's here lately that anything that moves the least bit strangely gets jumped on. I can remember when I got here being called BB King and Burger King so we all take our turns here getting picked on I guesss. (Must be some kind of ritual) ha But yours was from someone elses doings I'm afraid and not your own though I must admit the name is ripe for being picked on..ha

You didn't have to add the (cringe)...somehow I could sense that from the rest of your words alone :-)

I think I've got some morbid fascination over how guys cope with having *that girl* whose name just wrecks them, because looking into the future, I realize I am quickly becoming *that girl* for someone else...or at least I will be if and when we're finally apart. And that's breaking my heart, because it seems like a lot of responsibility to carry...

I know how much, even in this wonderful relationship, my hearts still bleeds a little over this other guy, and I never had any desire to be the girl that draws blood years later in someone else. Do any of you girls, or guys, know what I'm talking about? Any advice? It's just kind of eating away at me!

Madison, you got it. It's part of the data cleaning: I change \n to <BR>, change literal < and > to the codes for those, (I've learned that HTML on a shared big page is a bad idea unless you're smart enough to make sure everyone closes their tags, and I'm not that smart), and then the URL to Link converter. Well, I did some of that in the wrong order. Seems fine now though.

This stuff is tough to get right...guess that's why they pay me the big bucks! ;-)

Ophelia; I bet you got a brother named philup and another sister named whilamena, but honey, I'm back to thinking you might be one of those net preditors again...the water has not been safe since JAWS.

SCQueen; Not sure about girlswrite, will e-mail Julie and see if she's alright. I haven't submitted in a while.

Rhett; Honey, you got lots of learning before you are dried up, hang in there, hold your head up and take deep breaths and do some yoga and stay away from the dew..ha ha

Deeva; You too, Hang tight, the job will come. Just relax and paint some pretty pictures for us. I still want an original you, but the good ones go fast. (I will get one yet) Enjoy your new home.

Megs; I love David Gray too, hes so cool!

Wordly; The two you posted were (sigh) lovely, lovely, may we have more please?

Jack; Must have some woman after you that won't go away huh? Gotta watch out writing that romantic sensual stuff. (It's great Jack, keep it up please!)

Going to the lake and walk the dogs...see you guys later.

Calling her names like that! I mean heck, I like it rough sometimes...but derrogatory names?!" Then I'm reading on and find that, damn!...what he is doing SO well, he's doing with a sad (?) heart. It took me 'round the bend. I always have loved that.

I am looking for the poem that Robin Williams read in the movie Patch Adams. It begins with "I love you without knowing why or from where..." I would like to know who the author of the poem is. I have checked the movie site, but to no avail. Any information is appreciated. You may send information to Noaishte@aol.com. Thank you.

From: Kirk
Date: 12 February 2002

noaishte:
You should learn how to take advantage of http://google.com ; it can find most anything on the web. It took me less than a minute of searching to find a "Poems of Patch Adams" page (I just put in the first line you gave inside quotemarks)...that page was gone, but Google had a cached copy of it. That site told me it was Pablo Neruda, so then I added him along with the phrase in the search, and got (for instance) http://k7k.tripod.com/poetry/a.html , which seems to be the whole of Sonnet XVII.

Jon ~ Something happened. It's never ever ever happened before. It was slow, silent, and had perfect stealth. It was upon me before I knew what was happening. The tears slid out of my eyes, down my cheeks. I tasted them, cool on my tongue, as I read Calling her bluff and I don't even know why it happened. I've never cried here. Surely not with my own work, ever. And here was this innocuous peice of prose that slammed right up into my heart. I CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU WHY ! ! !

But I do feel quite honored that such a wonderful poet as yourself would react to one of my prose pieces in such a way. Thank you. I've been feeling that poem for a long time. I finally found the words. Chris and I got home from our hellacious road trip last night. We found a good apartment in Albuquerque and my brother found a good one down the road, in the foothills of the Sandias. We're back in Tejas for a couple of weeks, then we're headin' back to our enchanted desert city. I didn't work on my screenplay at all...I just watched HBO and plucked my eyebrows and created some Crayola artwork. I don't think I'll be able to do it justice until I feel more settled, but as the scenes come I'll submit them. Just don't tell Oliver Stone or David Lynch. ;-)

I am behind on comments and I love them all. Here's but a few.

Deev's the faces were wonderful and such a nice Valentine's Day Present for us all.

Misti; Good to see you back on the page woman, it's all great.

Laurel & Jon; 'Almost' and then Jon's bump 'I Wonder,' were just excellent showing both sides of the situation. Nice one. I love the song 'Since I Don't Have You,' nice oldie. I was wondering, do you ever wake up with whole poems in your head begging to be written? It's a strange feeling when that happens. I think my spirit goes traveling at night and comes home with words she makes me write. I do get writers block too, just have to wait it out, if I force it you can tell, its just clunky junk, ha

Duke; If you are new here "Welcome," and I like your writing very much.

smcurry; I almost cried reading 'As I Sit Here'. Hope you will write more for us as well

Jack; 'in evenings gentle swaying way,' made me laugh so hard. You have such a way of painting a picture.

Wistful; Both poems are wonderful, I think the line in 'Paperdoll,' 'She looks like a crackerjack without the prize inside,' is a keeper. ha

Great writing everyone, I love it all!

A potted history is called for I see! so.....If you read my first poems you know my name, I am 50 years of age,A hopeless romantic very recently married to my darling Sarah, 27 years of age, we live in leicester, England and by far the best programme to come from the states was "beauty and the Beast" starring linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman!
Oh Sarah says "Hi B.K."

Just a thought:

It would be really nice if people could make comments that would link right to the writer, so if someone wanted to comment on a poem by a certain author, the author could retrieve it easily and maybe even have a list of all the comments he/she has received.

Cheers,

Hi Sarah! What a lucky woman you are to have someone who writes to you like that. I love a man that can write and mine writes just incredible things to me as well. R.H., it's great to have your words here on the blender. I am enjoying everything you've written. I kind of thought maybe you were in England when you said the other side of the Atlantic. I've been to London and I loved it there and want to see more of it one day. I am in Nashville, Tennessee where most of the Country Music and Bluegrass is recorded. But we have every type of music and writers of all kinds here. Glad you like it here and hope you will write lots for us. I've been addicted to the Blender since, let me see now, Oct of 2000 is when you would see my first writings here. Never picked up a pen in my life till I fell in love with him (Sigh) ha and now I won't shut up..ha.

ummm think i owe a lot of blenderites an apology... im a silent player it seems not really from choice but i doubt my writing to the extreme of not replying, strange huh? lol try it from this side.
if i reply it seems like im asking for comments when all i ever wished for was only heart felt ones... yet it is rude as well not to reply. so catch 22, damned for and against. I've lived much of my life isolated in my own mind that it is still difficult to open up. Far more the easier just to post silent and see what happens. I do have to say every comment i have received has touched me deep, but i think the way i do it is far too selfish. i do read most every post here and so like so many have said before we have a great bunch of writers here both old and new.
and i owe a big apology to both chris and misti, lately i have seen the true treasure you have found chris and i am sorry for my earlier remarks, i don't think my apology is really worth much to either of you but here it is in writing anyways.
so in the future? well i will try to get better at both commenting on work i like as well as replying to ones i get as well k?

R.H.; You have me pegged alright, just a hopeless romantic, guess it takes on to know one. ha I liked the way you changed the mood in 'One Hour A Lifetime' from cold to HOT!

Ali; glad to see you back on the page again I was wondering were you were. Have seen your comments just glad you are posting again.

Echolocation; The line 'soap scum of bitterness,' gave me shivers and worked quite well in 'Dreamkiller,' some powerful writing there.

Ahh Jack; You know we love you whether you comment or not. (but comments are good too, ha)

Misti,

Not to be pretentious, but I can assure you that age has very little to do with "it." Indeed, it's a bit astounding to me that so many people worry about "it." Love, with or without the proper stranger, is something to be sought, nourished, cherished, remembered, and, for those fortunate few, kept close in space and time.

Chris,
I read your latest post and had to laugh. In the past 2 days I have single-handedly helped to bring my Mother's aging poodle to near-death, bent and scratched the rim of my boyfriends (not yet 1 week old) new car, and spilled 8 ounces of orange juice all over our beautiful area rug. The car and rug happened within 3 hours of each other! I know my dearest is not only annoyed - he is ready to boot my ass out on the street. Surely, your lovely wife Misti Lake doesn't equal my astounding level of ignorance!

Have a good day, Chris. Remember, patience, is the most beautiful virtue!

Vishal, don't worry too too much about it. If it had made me really grumpy I would've spoken as "Kirk, Blender-Keeper" not plain old "Kirk". And I am still amused by that interpretation I read before and posted...

Anyway, I'm thinking of maybe possibly taking another stab at t-shirts...but good ones this time, silkscreened. http://www.brunettotshirts.com/ makes some pretty good stuff, I think. We wouldn't have the easy big selection like we did with cafepress, but I think the imprint would be much, much nicer, and the whole thing might be like 1/2 to 2/3 the price of the cafepress stuff per shirt; the trouble is I'd have to order them in lots of like 25. Do people think it's worth it?

From: scqueen
Date: 25 February 2002

Oh Misti ~ Rusty+Andrea=Eternal Luv Thank you, thank you, thank you. My thoughts exactly. Bingo.
And I do have to say, Chris has a very eclectic taste in music :-) Oh, and I may be wrong, but I once heard a list of songs that referred to masturbation, like "Dancing with Myself' and "I Think I'm turning Japanese" etc. and I was totally mortified, because I used to sing those loudly in college. Anywho, maybe "Wang Chung" fits in there too???
...Safe travels.

From: Misti
Date: 25 February 2002

Scqueen~
Yeah, I heard awhile back that "Dancing With Myself" is about masturbation. I was disillusioned. I just thought it was an eBuLLieNT song about individuality and refusal to conform! I still like it and I still want to buy "Vital Idol" someday. Chris makes fun of "Eyes Without a Face" but that's my favorite Billy Idol song. And this is just to say that he can never criticize my taste in music again after submitting that atrocious country song!!!

Wang Chung=masturbation? Makes sense! My all-time favorite masturbation song has to be "Darling Nikki" by Prince and the Revolution. "I met her in a hotel lobby masturbating with a magazine." I fully realize the sleaze factor and I guess I should be ashamed of myself. But I feel liberated in admitting that.

I sent an e-mail to the editor of People regarding the Andrea Yates story. They actually published a letter I sent them a few years back regarding the nanny (Louise Whatsherface...from the UK)who allegedly shook her infant charge to death. People should have to take a battery of tests before they can breed. !!!@@##$ I'm going to get involved in politics in Albuquerque. I haven't voted since '92 and that's really lame.

Thanks for the good luck! We will need it. I'm just so grateful for my mix tapes.

From: scqueen
Date: 25 February 2002

OHHHHH Misti ~ I love 'Darling Nikki' and 'Bambi' and 'I wanna Be Your Lover' - all of the early Prince songs. And remember 'Jack U Off?' He was at his peak (no pun intended) in the early 80's when I was in college, and I remember an outdoor fashion show, where they played 'Purple Rain' and a very popular student rode in with a guy on a motorcycle. She had on a full length purple sequined coat and spiked boots. A few months later she was killed in a single car accident, and yet I will always remeber how beautiful she looked that day and get chills every time I hear 'Purple Rain.' Anyway, I digress....

From: scqueen

A Very Special Way I have read many poems in my life. I love reading and writing poetry, however I must say that I have never read a poem that quite touches me the way "A Special Way" has. The writer is very talented. As I read this I honestly had tears swell in my eyes. As a poet to another I congradulate you and my heart goes out to you, I can relate to this poem for I know exactly how you feel.

I would really like to know who this "Jon" is that is writing all these poems. It feels as if he can read my thoughts and know what it is that I feel in my heart. I just signed up today and as I was going through reading all of the poems I found myself skipping all of them except the ones by "Jon". I'd really like to know how your poems end, perhaps that's how my life will........you seem to know what has happened so far.

Hopeful; Intimacy by Instinct is wonderful to wake up to this morning. I loved it.

Sorry I have been hit and run around here lately. Will get in here and do some major comments soon.

Jon, thanks for the kindness. I'm trying to come out of a long dry spell. Slowly but surely...

Holly, Husband and Wife is beautiful! I'm marrying in June and trying to write my vows; funny how writer's block is selective...

Bonjour, Mes Amies,
I have been creeping around and reading silently the past few weeks. I just wanted to give a brief comment to a few Blenderites:
twinkle - plain swept is marevelous. Terrific imagery, wonderful word usage.
Vishal - I have been loving your posts. And yes, I am in love with my best friend.
Madison - afraid to say he loves her rips at my heart - as do most your words.
BK - Vitamin P (Passion) is so uplifting. I love your stuff!
jackrhyme,TJ,violet,Misti - ALWAYS a pleasure to see your posts!

Ta Ta,

Twinkle~plain swept swept me away. (Pun intended!) :-)

angieubaldo~he was wonderful. MORE!

Jennifer~Thanks for your comments and I'm amazed that you like my work that much. And as for how "it" ends I really have no idea. I guess we'll see won't we? As for me, I'm some 20-year guy old who thinks a little too much. Anyway, hope to see you post some works up. :-)

Hee hee, I liked your bump Gala. I caught a few honest descriptions that made me smile more than the normal arrogant 'super athletic, good-looking, no baggage and financially stable.'

They were: semi-fit, bookish, ok-looking, prefer shorter woman. I'd go for these, if I were looking :-)

Perhaps I shall finish my sentences before submitting in the future...easy on the lashings, please ;)

What I meant to say:

scqueen, I really enjoyed 25 on the 25th . Reminds me of a dear friend who we recently lost. Thank you for that memory.

Galadrial, great bump. You're right, one often needs to look between the lines to find what the other is looking for...

Thank you, Kylie. That was a very personal poem to write and I've been terrified that we might lose her over the past few years. She has lots of ups & downs and it has taken me a long time to connect with and reach her.

scqueen, Gala - amused at the Personal Ad banter. I had an idea the other day and filed it away in [to use later in a poem or life or somethin' file]: "Ready for love, any takers?" Then scratch a big X through the last word and replace it with [Ready for love, any] givers?

(thanks Rhet and Violet)

oh, scqueen, the poem for your cousin struck me as well, there's a poem for my own on the same sort of story, but hers had so very tragic an ending that it took me a couple of years before I wrote anything about it. A bit of a gruesome thing to read, but somehow it came out anyway - you know where my page is, it's hiding away there; "time-released". Huge hugs to you and your cuz.

Rhetoric: Really appreciate that, ditto. Have stayed away from the message board because the task of expressing my admiration is too monumental. If permitted, a few brief comments:

Jon: you sell yourself short, love everything you've written, but beautiful was, well, beautiful

B.k. and Misti: Oh my god. I am in awe, and then some.

Wordley: One Hour A Lifetime was simply wonderful. Your work is wonderful. Hope to see much more.

Wow, Madi ~ I went to your site (nice new pic, by the way) and read 'Time-released'. Wow. Mine was sugar-coated compared to yours. Well, well written. And the funny part? My cousin loved in Austin for about a year, not long ago.

Jon~ as always, "i got over it" reminds me of some event that happened in my life. and looking back at stuff like that does help me realize im not going to die or anything, it just takes time(: im looking forward to your next poem!
