I had an awesome Mother's Day, even though I'm not really a mother (just a bio mom). Chris gave me a $20 gift card to Hasting's (I got the "Jackie Brown" sndtrk cd and Ferlinghetti's Coney Island of the Mind), my mom gave me $30 to Wal-Mart (Faded Glory jeans for nine bucks...doesn't get much better than that)and my brother gave me a lavender rose. I'm too spoiled.

Oh! Nerve Cowboy rejected me for the 2nd year in a row. I ripped the rejection letter in half. Chris says some writers actually save all their rejection letters. He really shouldn't encourage my pack rat tendencies.
Misti - I LOVE that soundtrack. Across 110th Street is a kick-ass song. If you like that one - get both Crooklyn Soundtracks - they are equally full of great 70's R&B and Funk tunes. Talking about make-up...yeah, when I lived in Knoxville during grad school, there was a MAC counter in the big dept. store. I went crazy...the foundation and lipsticks are so wonderful. Now, I just have to stay away from all Aveda, Keihl, MAC, and Stila signs I see!
Oh, and then there is Kate Spade. I am really a spoiled brat who pretends to ignore all that girlie stuff (problem is: when you spend more on makeup and purses than you do on upkeep for your car...there is a problem)!

Your works posted here are freaking amazing. I don't know if they are the same that you sent to the Cowboy, but what I have read of yours is honest, plainly-written, and clever. You never try those tricks with words that makes your stuff sound like collegiate fluff (I am guilty of this). You are like the Dorothy Parker of this site! She said it like it was - and that is how I perceive your writing style.
Maybe I am wrong. Poetic "moods" change. The established literati of this country may be in a more 1830's mood!

I was actually hesitant to comment on your newest BECAUSE it was so powerful at dredging up past memories. I don't like to think of me at ages 15-19 too often. I have certainly learned from some mistakes and saw where I missed opportunities, but largely, that time represents a vast whole in my self-esteem. When could it be worse in the life of a young girl to self-deprecate.

Wordley ~ Congrats on getting a PC! I never knew what the big hubaloo was over Macs vs. PC's. Just get a machine and be done with it, I always said! One time I said that to a Mac owner and he never spoke to me again. Huh. Oh, well. Anyway, Wordley...I'm hoping that poem you wrote was only inspired by my drunkeness and not an attempt at describing who I may be! LOL!! Cause I was thinking, the only thing that's similar is that on Sunday's I feel super guilty sitting in church knowing I tore things up the night before! Ha! (actually, I don't drink very often, but when I do, I do it big time)
